Historical accounts describe Mulla Fatima as a female musician and singer who lived during the reign of Karim Khan Zand in eighteenth-century Shiraz. According to one account, she performed with musicians upon a platform built over a pool in the Karim Khan Bazaar. It is said that one evening she sang a ghazal by Hafez and other verses in the presence of Karim Khan, who honoured her performance by showering gold, silver, and pearls at her feet.
