The Simurgh
At the end of their long journey, the birds finally reached the Simurgh, only to discover that the sovereign they had been seeking was not an external being, but the truth that had always existed within themselves. Attar expressed this timeless revelation in a single verse:
“When the thirty birds looked upon the Simurgh, they realized that the thirty birds themselves were the Simurgh.”
