The Fine Line

Inspired by a thought from Oriana Fallaci’s Letter to a Child Never Born:

“The line separating stupidity from intelligence is so thin that sometimes it cannot be seen at all.”

A single face spans both sides of a slender golden line. On one side, a dove, books, light, and steps leading toward a living tree suggest peace, learning, and possibility. On the other, tangled lines, darkness, and a face caught in a cry evoke fear and inner turmoil. These contrasting spaces can be understood as aspects of the same human consciousness, where awareness and confusion coexist.

The fine line at the centre questions our confidence in our own judgments: can we always recognize the difference between intelligence and stupidity? The face continuing across this boundary suggests that both possibilities exist within each of us. Sometimes, the distance between them rests on a single choice, a moment of doubt, or a willingness to reflect.
