Zaynab of Zanjan
Zaynab of Zanjan was a Bábí woman who stood courageously alongside her fellow believers during the siege of Zanjan in 1850. Her story also honours the many Bábís who remained steadfast in their faith despite persecution, siege, and the loss of countless lives.
In this painting, Zaynab stands before an earthen wall, her gaze resolute, as though ready to defend her beliefs and her companions. The work pays tribute to her courage and to the sacrifices of the Bábís of Zanjan.
This is not a photograph or a documented likeness of Zaynab. Her face, clothing, and surroundings are my artistic interpretation, inspired by historical accounts.
