Chakeh Sama is one of the traditional folk dances of Mazandaran, a lush province in northern Iran along the Caspian Sea. Rooted in rural life and community celebrations, this joyful dance reflects the deep connection between people, music, and nature.

Often, the rhythm begins with nothing more than hands striking the back of a metal basin or cooking pot, creating a simple yet captivating beat. As the tempo grows, dancers respond with graceful movements, transforming everyday sounds into a celebration of life.

In this painting, a young woman dressed in authentic Mazandarani attire is captured in the midst of the dance. The flowing skirt, expressive hands, and serene expression are more than elements of choreography—they embody joy, freedom, and the enduring spirit of a cultural tradition passed down through generations.

Through this work, I sought to preserve not only the beauty of movement but also the cultural memory it carries. Every gesture and every color pays tribute to the warmth, resilience, and artistic heritage of the people of Mazandaran.
